Life with kids in Sydney's Inner West

West Juliett, Marrickville

One of the most popular cafes in the Inner West and one of our most frequented! You’ll always get great food and coffee at West Juliett!

Opened in 2013, West Juliett quickly established itself as an Inner West icon. With a focus on fresh, local produce, the menu is full of amazing breakfast and lunch options. Don’t get me talking about their cake and cookie selection! The pink salt chocolate chip cookies are an absolute must with every visit, and their Ginger Snap cookies are often fought over in this household!

Handily located around the corner from Enmore Park and Marrickville Metro, we often stop at West Juliett for a quick coffee and catch up with friends, before getting on with the day – usually a visit to the Magic Yellow Bus on a Thursday, a quick shop at the Metro or a swim at Enmore pool.

Kids are more than welcome at West Juliett, and we often sit outside on Juliett Street, where the kids can move around and play without disturbing other patrons. There are also colouring pencils and paper available which are always a hit with the kids. High chairs are available on request, however there are no change facilities. There is also a separate dining room, which has been used for Mothers Groups upon request.

We were lucky enough to catch up for breakfast recently. The cafe was busy, but we were able to get a table easily (I believe Saturdays can be a bit tricky, so be prepared to wait – the staff are great and will accommodate you as quickly as they can).

The French toast with salted caramel, ricotta and vanilla Bosc pears was sweet and delicious – a good one to share as the serving was huge! The bacon and egg roll with chilli marmalade aioli is an absolute must – really delicious, and the miche toast is a simple breakfast option with home made jam, or other spreads of your choice. We also tried the eggs, bacon and roasted tomato – a classic and really well cooked. The house made soda’s and juices are also a refreshing.

There is also a kids menu, which includes Cheese on toast ($4.50, boiled egg ‘n soldiers $5.50 and scrambled eggs on toast ($7.50), little shakes smoothies or juice ($3.90)

It’s almost cruel to have the vast array of beautiful home made cakes and cookies stare at you while you pay the bill, and criminal if you don’t grab something to take away for morning or afternoon tea! Every day there is a new muffin flavour, along with the everyday favourite pink salt and chocolate chip cookies, flourless orange cakes, itty bitty carrot cakes plus so much more. I’m hungry just thinking about it!

All in all, West Juliett is a lovely option for breakfast, lunch, or anything in between. Be prepared to really enjoy the food and atmosphere – the cafe is always busy, so there’s a really nice buzz about it.
